Life has been surprisingly normal, or maybe I'm just getting used to running mud in place of water, which sometimes has the added bonus of worms in it. Just what you want in a shower. The mud acts as a really good exfoliant, I'm sure some people would pay a lot for mud showers. I could set them up as a side line when I get home. No more floods in the house or aborted kittens and no eggs from the cockerels but I can't bring myself to cook them, yet.
The college has been busy with more exams, the marking is nearly complete and we are about to finish for Easter. We have booked a house on the lake for the holiday. I have just found out that the Diocese has a house that we can use so we are giving it a try. I've been assured there are no hippos or crocodiles there. Just a house on the beach complete with house staff.
I've planned a trip to Mzuzu in the north to visit the health faculty in the university and the hospital. It will be interesting to see how different they are from St Luke's. The weekend before that we have a meeting at Mount Mulangi, which was postponed from earlier this month, then after that I have another meeting at the lake. We are still trying to book our trip to Zanzibar but flight are expensive just now and we have been advised to wait until the price comes down. We are considering going one way overland either by bus or train to see a bit more of the country but it will depend on how long the trip will take.
The college has had to delay the starting date for the new student intake by 6 months. This is to have the entry date in line with the government hospitals. That means we will be operating at half capacity for 6 months but at least it gives time for professional visits and developing the IT in the college. We still don't have phone lines. The phone company want the college to provide security for the lines which they can't do. We are just about to get a satellite link for internet access with the Scottish Executive grant so we should be online in the foreseeable future.
I hope everyone at home is well. Keep in touch, Carol

HI Carol,
How are you doing? I knew there was something amiss ( or is it something extra?!) with those birds!! Oh well, think of all the lovely roasts you can have! We're all ok here, kids are fine. Exams are coming up for Brianna and Callum soon and no matter how often Bri tries to tell Callum to study, he's being a typical 15 year old and knows it all! Never mind we were all the same! Niamh is dotting along, she is learning to play the chanter! If you ever get access to youtube you can see her playing! We've booked a wee short break to Paris for the summer as Brianna tells us that this is the last time she's coming on hols with us. I can't believe she's getting so old. We're hoping to get back out into the garden soon and get the veg patch up and growing again. ANyway I must go and get the dishes done (dishwasher broken!). I've sent you an airmail, hope it arrives soon.Take care Lesley & co xxx
Carol Hi,
I thought it was time that I ventured into leaving a message instead of just reading about all your adventures!!!
Life here seems very tame compared to the experiences your are adding to your belt!
Dave has been retired for about a year now and we just don't know what has happened to the time. We are also "home alone" as Graham has now moved into his own house. He returned from his 4 month trip to China full of stories and hundreds of photos.
Sarah is about to turn 21 and will be home for the weekend so we will return early from our holiday in Aviemore to help her celebrate.
On the work front...well....no..you don't want to know. Take care. Ann
Hello again, got your latest card and loved the quote. There used to be something similar said about a connection to the Bay City Rollers.Hope your house at the lake at Easter was nice and is it the same group going to Zanzibar? Any more photos for us?
Having never cooked a cockerel myself I checked internet and found to my surpreez that a capon is a castrated cockerel ( always thought fat hen )so are you going out there with your surgical scissors/ machete or will you just cook them intacto?Good recipe at www.sofeminine.co.uk- cheap/ exotic /easy and much better than the current series Delia Smith which is pathetic. Then you could always send off to Cucina for cockerel servers but they probably wouldn't arrive till you are back here. I believe more of your parcels have turned up, including your SHOES. Has anyone been wearing them?
H and JT busy preparing for exams and J, T and R busy too. School holidays so R should be recovered from bad tonsillitis when back. Ian went for week to north Spain near French border .Said ok but changed as too many Brits have bought there to live permanently and they all hang out together with their dogs and read the newspapers together. Quelle horreur. I did not want to go after France disappointing at same time last year and it's only 9 weeks till our main holiday anyway.
Look after yourself well
Lots of love, Helen
HI Carol, You could use the basement in Carnegie for the mud baths, I was planned a colonic lavage parlour there so would go well together. We are having fun and games here with no kitchen and the new puppy Archie. Today we are all painting the kitchen, so Archie was put in his cage prior to his first shower. John has been demented with all the shenanigans of the dogs. nevis and ASrchie are getting along very well and they have taken to playing chase except they escaped out the garden and were running all over the street, Jhn said it was like the grand national. Archie can jump really high so he was clearing the hedges, shorty Nev was running through them. I for once was so glad to be at work for not the peace and quiet but running water and electricity. Still it will be worth it. Had an email from JB I am on the case for you with the SPPA, and will keep on at HR until it is sorted. Big Al was asking for you and Lesley E. had a nightout on Friday to the new mexican in Dunfermline. Elaine and I were discussing our holiday fund, we fancy NY again when you get back. You have had some interesting trips and you will looking forward to your friends coming out to visit. That will be good to get internet access, and then we can email you without fear!
I best go and see how the lamb is cooking in the motorhome! Cannot wait to get my new kitchen, should be in by Wednesday. Golf starts this week, not sure |I will manage as I will need to get the house back into some order. Take care and hope the cockerel is good tasting. LOL Rhona x x
